Furry Coat Love.

Atlanta, Lifestyle, nightlife, ootd

Greetings and Happy New Year. It also happens to be Black History Month so theres that as well. Plenty to be grateful for. 2020 has been pretty illuminating already. I cleaned up my eating and I’ve been way more consistent with my spiritual practice. Meditation makes a difference, man.

My friend had a gender reveal/ birthday party at Ra Sushi. My first time there and I definitely have to go back for a full dinner. My look reflected a classy lady of the night in a Blaxploitation film. I think it’s the coat, lol. Funny enough, I found this coat while shopping at Sam’s. Some of the gems be where you least expect it.

Much love,

God Bless the Ratchets.

Atlanta, Music, nightlife

Hey, hey! I hit up the Saint Jhn concert in Atlanta recently. I was excited for the show because Saint Jhn’s music is dope. His tone, the vibes, and the general aesthetic is fire. He has 2 compilations on Apple Music. I recommend you check them out. If you take a listen, drop me a comment about what you think.

I was overall happy with the show, but something was definitely amiss during the performance because you could see it on Jhn’s face. My guess is that something was off with the sound. After the first verse of a lot of the songs, he would cut the music to do an a cappella thing. Idk about that, but regardless, it was still a fun show because the songs go hard. Atlanta was the second stop of the tour, so if Saint Jhn is in your city, swing through. I fucks with it.

And as you can see, I switched up my look. Hey girl! The blonde is gone and these bundles have arrived, lol. I rocked long straight hair for a decent amount of my life, so I miss it sometimes. The weather was letting me live my best style life too so I was not mad. Let me know if you’re digging the look in the comments.

Peace.

A Little Lip Service in Atlanta

Atlanta, Lifestyle, nightlife

Hey hey!

Angela Yee, 1/3 of the Breakfast Club, had a live show of her podcast “Lip Service” in Atlanta last Wednesday night. It was at the Buckhead Theatre. I had never actually heard Lip Service but I was excited to experience a live Podcast. The crowd was relatively small but it was still cool. The special guests were Trouble, YFN Luchi, and Tokyo Jets. I loved how candid the discussions were. They talked about sex, relationships, cheating, monogamy, and all kinds of other foolishness. It was fun, low key, and intimate. I think the overall conversation about relationships and sex and just real shit is definitely beneficial to the collective, whether people end up agreeing or not.

Now I’m thinking about seeing The Friend Zone live in Atlanta (bc that’s my show).

Yal ever been to a live Podcast? How was it?

Peace and blessings,

LA

Music: Afrobeats Concert @ the A3C Festival

Atlanta, Music, nightlife, ootd

Hey! I was at the A3C Afrobashment show at the Tabernacle. I’m a big fan of Afrobeats at this point so I was pretty excited to check out a good show. Initially, this show had: Afro B, Mr Eazi, Koffee, Tiwa Savage, and Burna Boy. As it got closer to the show date, Tiwa and Burna Boy were removed from the lineup. How? I was super dissapointed, but I still went out to see Mr. Eazi, Afro B, & Koffee. I tell you one thing, Afrobeats music is the truth. So “feed-good”, so swaggy, just everything. And Koffee and her band were super talented.

Did anybody else check out this show or see these artists recently? Thoughts? Who’s your favorite Afrobeats artist? I’m really digging Burna Boy, Wizkid, & Juls right now.

Anyway, this is what I wore. Pants from H&M, a (quintessential Atlanta) men’s sequins t-shirt that says “The Plug”, and creepers for good measure. It is spooky season, right?

Staycation with me.

Atlanta, nightlife

I celebrated 5 years in the marriage game last weekend. It honestly stuns me that I have been married for 5 years already. Life just keeps moving right along. Marriage is challenging at times but it’s also a lot of fun, especially when you’re raising a family together. Here’s to loving, listening, lots of fun, and continued personal growth.

Amanze (the hub) and I did a staycation at the W Atlanta- Midtown. The room was super cute. Then we ate at Chops Lobster Bar. Fiye. I had salmon and Amanze had a seafood trio….it was seriously delicious. Afterwards, we hit up Wiskey Mistress where they played early ’00’s tunes and oldies for not got-damn reason, but it was funny. The ambiance in that place is real cool though.

Where do yal like to go out in Atlanta?

Peace,

-Leslie

Travel: Father’s Day in Kansas City.

momlife, travel

If it’s one thing about me that you can bet on, it’s that I’m always taking (and editing) pictures. The 8,000+ pictures currently on my iPhone are proof of that. So even when I’m not posting anything, my arsenal real strong.

I was in Kansas City for Father’s Day this year. We went to Fritz’s, where trains deliver your meal, club’d it in the Westport area, and took family photos of the next generation. #CousinSquad with their Nigerian names on the back.

For any of my KC readers, what are your recommendations for cool things to do in the city?

Peace. ❤️

The Graduate: From Martin to Memphis

Career, travel

Shawty just graduated!

I’m so happy to say that I just received my Master of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee- Martin. I studied to be a school counselor so that meant lots of classes, residency, practicum, and two school internships. And I’m walking away with a 4.0 and two babies. Couldn’t be happier with how things turned out.

From graduation, me and my family headed to Memphis. BBQ & Beale Street basically. Had a lot of fun on Beale Street though. That was the longest time I’ve spent in Memphis and I got a real sense of the people while out that night. And my family basically got caught in a drive by shooting, so there’s that, but I thought Memphis was cool. Life is wild tho.

Still on cloud 9. Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Much love.

My little sister, Meaghan, came in town to celebrate her Earth Day birthday. We kicked things off at Cascade. I used to skate when I was a kid in East St. Louis so I thought that would be a cool experience.  Shout out to Skate King.

Cascade makes me think so much of the movie ATL. Which then makes me think of Lauren London aka New New. Thinking about Nipsey and inevitably Lauren all the time these days. Much love to them.

Who gon meet me at the skate rink so I can practice and not embarrass myself? 🙂

Print Master/ Shorties at an Art Show.

Art, Atlanta, nightlife, ootd

Hey loves!

How is life? I feel like I’ve been going through it but I’m still moving in the right direction so all is good. Focusing on gratitude, right?

When things get really chaotic or stressful, it’s important to check in with yourself and put that self-care/self-love on 100. Taking time to be mindful, breathing deeply, eating healthier, disengaging from interactions that don’t bring joy into my life, laughing…all of those things are so crucial for me.

What do you all do as self-care when things get tough?

Part of my self-care included going to an art show at Octane Saturday night with the homies. Mama needs her time too. 20 local artists showcased work. I love seeing art and being a part of an art community. Plus Bar Taco was next door….ya girl was plantained up and so happy. Had a mini photo shoot on the streets too. Tis life. I am not mad.

Vintage plaid blazer, leopard pants, a graphic tank, and creepers on my feet. Style.

If you want to comment on this look, the art showcase, or whatever, hit me in the comments below. Until next time.

Peace.

Sheer-o

Atlanta, nightlife, ootd

Hey!

I went to the club Superbowl weekend. I haven’t been to a club club in a minute. It was fun, but I’m not rushing to do all that again. For me, the music has to be 100, so when the DJ got selective amnesia about new school hip hop/trap music, I had to make a mental note to skip that club in the future.  I came to be ratchet, don’t hate on my dreams.

I still enjoyed myself. No way I’m finding someone to watch my kids, getting all dressed up, driving to wherever, paying actual dollars, and not kicking it. I kicks it.

I went shopping at Southlake Mall specifically to find something to wear that night. There was a plentiful bounty of hood boutique type shops, which I appreciated because the price was good and the clothes were slightly unusual. I bought this sheer top along with 2 dresses. I was not planning to wear this shirt but I got to playing around in my closet and boom. It was a perfect blend tho.

Putting looks together is a form of creativity and self-expression for me. Just like if I were painting a portrait or taking a picture….it’s all in love. And it’s fun. I love how this outfit came together. I’m sure it will be one of my favorite looks of 2019.

I named this post “Sheer-o” because my shirt is sheer, I am basically a superhero, and I am a She. Yep? Cool.

What does night life look like for you? Clubs, lounges, house parties, restaurants, special events, binging Netflix, self-care, etc….let’s chat.

Show some love by liking, commenting, and sharing. I would really appreciate it. 😘
