OOTD: Warm Earth Tones

Lifestyle, ootd, Wellness

Hey everyone! How are things? …it’s been a lot, right? I’ve been mostly focused on being a mom and a graduate student right now. And trust me, that is plenty. Overflow. When I first found out that my graduate program was transitioning to online learning, I really thought I was gonna show up to classes (on Zoom) in my “house clothes.” Nah playa. The devil is a lie. See I like to dress. I like to style clothes. AKA my closet is my playground.

So as long as I’m home based, I’m gonna get up and get dressed for the day and so will my kids. We gon be comfy but cute. Pajamas all day was fun for a little while but nah. We off that.

Then we can feel good and look good when we go on walks around the neighborhood. How are you and your family settling in at home?

Atlanta, Music, nightlife

Hey, hey! I hit up the Saint Jhn concert in Atlanta recently. I was excited for the show because Saint Jhn’s music is dope. His tone, the vibes, and the general aesthetic is fire. He has 2 compilations on Apple Music. I recommend you check them out. If you take a listen, drop me a comment about what you think.

I was overall happy with the show, but something was definitely amiss during the performance because you could see it on Jhn’s face. My guess is that something was off with the sound. After the first verse of a lot of the songs, he would cut the music to do an a cappella thing. Idk about that, but regardless, it was still a fun show because the songs go hard. Atlanta was the second stop of the tour, so if Saint Jhn is in your city, swing through. I fucks with it.

And as you can see, I switched up my look. Hey girl! The blonde is gone and these bundles have arrived, lol. I rocked long straight hair for a decent amount of my life, so I miss it sometimes. The weather was letting me live my best style life too so I was not mad. Let me know if you’re digging the look in the comments.

Peace.

AFROPUNK Atlanta 2019

Atlanta, Lifestyle, Music

AFROPUNK Atlanta 2019. Yowza.

I’m not even exaggerating when I say that this was by far the best AFROPUNK I’ve ever been too. Atlanta clowned. The people were BEAUTIFUL. Everyone. Not just some folks, but all. Vibes everywhere. I’m honestly still on cloud 9. I’m so in awe of how AFROPUNK leveled alllllll the way the fuck up this year. So many sponsorships and cool interactive art installations. The overall scale was just grander. It was beautiful.

Now for the tunes:

Lucky Daye. Anderson Paak. Smino. Masego. Mahalia. Brittany Howard. Fever 333.

Lucky Daye has been one of my favorites for a while and this was my first time seeing him in concert. His live show is amazing. I would have been satisfied if I went home after his set. But then I get to see Smino, a fellow STLien. And end the night with Anderson Paak who did a tribute to Mac Miller. Shawty is mad content. I am shawty.

I’m excited for how AFROPUNK Atlanta is evolving. If you were at the festival, drop me a comment! What was your favorite experience at AFROPUNK this year?

Peace,

Leslie Anne

Music: Afrobeats Concert @ the A3C Festival

Atlanta, Music, nightlife, ootd

Hey! I was at the A3C Afrobashment show at the Tabernacle. I’m a big fan of Afrobeats at this point so I was pretty excited to check out a good show. Initially, this show had: Afro B, Mr Eazi, Koffee, Tiwa Savage, and Burna Boy. As it got closer to the show date, Tiwa and Burna Boy were removed from the lineup. How? I was super dissapointed, but I still went out to see Mr. Eazi, Afro B, & Koffee. I tell you one thing, Afrobeats music is the truth. So “feed-good”, so swaggy, just everything. And Koffee and her band were super talented.

Did anybody else check out this show or see these artists recently? Thoughts? Who’s your favorite Afrobeats artist? I’m really digging Burna Boy, Wizkid, & Juls right now.

Anyway, this is what I wore. Pants from H&M, a (quintessential Atlanta) men’s sequins t-shirt that says “The Plug”, and creepers for good measure. It is spooky season, right?

Future Doctor in Forsyth Park

momlife, ootd, travel

Yesterday I found out that I was accepted into Mercer’s Doctor of Psychology program! I had been wait listed all summer and a spot just opened up, less than 2 weeks before classes start, and I was first on the list.🙌🏽 I literally jumped up and down when I got the news.

And to think, I had been applying for counseling jobs all summer and could not get an interview. I was still hoping that things would work out and some miracle would get me into this program tho.

In spite of my disappointments, I meditated on the fact that whatever is for me is already mine and things work out as they should. And I got in. God stay having my back.

Here is the final round of pictures from my Savannah trip. Rocking black on black in the beautiful Forsyth Park.

Dress: Papaya; Shoes: GoJane.com

I was having a real yellow moment when I visited Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta a couple weeks ago for a networking event. Hair, skin tone, dress, bag….all of it.

So naturally I became curious about the psychology and meaning of the color yellow. This is the quick version of what I found:

Yellow: Uplifting, happy, fun, hopeful, practical thinker, networker, the mind, intellect.

Whew chile, the alignment.

Winter in the Morning, Spring in the Afternoon.

Atlanta, ootd

Yea it’s technically Spring, but Winter is still out here trying to be seen at least a few hours out of the day. So the wardrobe is in transition. Atlanta weather right now is a little bit all over the place. But I suppose that’s always been the nature of early Spring. In the last week I’ve worn a coat, sandals, shorts, a sweater….and seriously needed rainboots. Went from turning on the heat one night to turning on the air a couple days later. This is foolishness.

Here’s an outfit I threw together last month. Layering, like I always do. Especially helpful when the weather is a little funny. Love this vintage plaid sweater and these adorable rose gold Nine West booties.

If you come across this post, drop me a comment letting me know what city you’re in. Is Atlanta the only place with weather that’s still flip flopping?

Feeling Blue at The High

Art, Atlanta, ootd

I went to Jazz Night at the High Museum last Friday night…it was so cute yal. The last time I was at the High was for Infinity Mirrors and that was an awesome experience too. I really need to start using my lil membership more.

I went out to celebrate my friend’s birthday. It was girl power to the 10th degree and I was not mad at all. That feminine energy is powerful yal. Great vibes, conversations about real shit, looks for days, and a multitude of pictures. Sums it right on up.

I’m back with winter layers that will treat you just right. I can’t get enough of skirts/dresses over pants. Other than my tube top, this outfit is either thrifted or vintage.

And my hair is grey and blue. What a time to be alive.

Atlanta Nights in a Vintage Collarless Jacket

Atlanta, Lifestyle, ootd

Top: F21; Shoes: Nine West; Jacket: Linda Allard Ellen Tracy; Purse: Carryland; Shorts: Calvin Klein

The semester just ended and I’m finishing up my internship next week. I’m so excited to take a break from school for a few weeks. So when the homie hit me up asking about going out Friday night, it was a yes. Had to make sure the babies were straight at home, but then…bet.

Good times. When I was headed back to my car in the Uber, we all struck up a good convo about nightlife in Atlanta. Don’t you love it when you have a cool Uber driver? I was legit in that piece taking notes on my phone 😂. See even though it’s been more than 2 years since I moved down here, I still feel relatively new to Atlanta. I have no idea where to go if I want a certain vibe or experience. But I want to. If you know where the spot is in Atlanta… whether it’s a big club or a dope hole in the wall, lemme know.

I had fun putting this outfit together. Most of it came from a thrift store, which I almost prefer. Thrift stores are just dope. I’ve had this collarless jacket for years and it’s not going anywhere. It’s beautiful and so well made. I’m also in love with these high heel mules from Nine West. Mules have made a serious come back and I, for one, am not mad. 🙂

What do you typically shop for in thrift stores? I’m usually looking for vintage jackets/blazers, blouses, high waist pants, and purses.

Happy Gratitude Day

Striped top: h&m; Shoes: Nine West

Back at it with my love for layers. This dress can be worn lots of different ways.  I imagine it buttoned up with a small sweater worn over it. Or with a fitted black leather jacket. On this particular day I was feeling the vibe of wearing it open with high waisted jeans and a crop top. My trick to get the dress to stay in place, is to wear a belt over it. Hella practical, and adds another layer of cute. Mmmkay.

I spent this holiday week with family and with tons of food. Hello food. Thanksgiving, or Gratitude Day, as I like to call it, was at my house this year. Me and my husband were busting our asses to make sure there was plenty of deliciousness and that our house wasn’t a complete mess. Mission accomplished.

What did you do to celebrate the holiday?
